Schultz family trip July 2014-Day 1

This trip was in the works for over a year.....saving & planning.  I am so excited to share our travels!

We were set to leave July 5th; traveling to Seattle, then on to Vancouver to board the Disney Wonder for a 7 night Alaskan cruise.  I do have to say that getting there was not an easy task.  Before we even left the house, Jaden took a nasty spill in the hallway, causing everyone to gasp & run to check the damages.  Thankfully, he was OK!  When we finally had our vehicle loaded & ready to go, we didn't even make it out of our subdivision due to "forgetting something".  The drive to the airport was uneventful, but it seems as though July 4th is a heavily traveled holiday for airlines-the parking lot was COMPLETELY full!  We found a place to park at a neighboring business (with permission, of course).  Would you believe we had 15 pieces of luggage??????

This would be a first experience in an airplane for Sydney & Rianna.  I think they were a little nervous about the whole process.  Peoria airport is a great place for first-time fliers-it's small & easy going ;-)  Wouldn't you know it-Sydney was selected for random screening at security!  The look on her face was priceless!

Our flight was nice...we had a 7 hr layover in Atlanta-kind of going backwards, in my opinion, but we are at the mercy of the flights out of our small neighboring airports.  Little did we know a roadblock was being set up for us.....

When we FINALLY got to board our second flight, a much longer one I might add, it was tight quarters :-(  Super uncomfortable & to keep the kids somewhat content, we purchased a movie for each of them to watch to pass the time.  All is well-right?

We landed in Seattle a little shy of midnight-we were all feeling the time zone change significantly.  As we were waiting at baggage claim, a deliriously fatigued thought ran through my head, "what if none of our luggage shows up?"  Nah, that is crazy-right?!  How could all 7 pieces of our checked luggage not arrive?  Several minutes later, when everyone's bags had been unloaded & claimed......I realized that crazy thought was real!!!!!  No luggage!!!!  Apparently our airline had left all of our luggage in Atlanta!  This is when B loses his cool.  Not good.  To compensate us, the airline gave us little overnight kits.  Hmmm....ok.  They assured us they would get our luggage to the ship...in 2 days.  Ugh.  Ok. Not much we can do at this point, so we head to the Super 8 Sea/Tac.  You might be able to guess what time it is by now, right?  Let me tell you this, the Super 8 Sea/Tac is the grossest dive I have ever been in.  Filthy. Bad breakfast.  Rude employees.  But, again, we make the best of it because it is nearly 2am at this point.  We had a wake-up call for 5:15am due to the fact that we had Amtrak tickets for the 7:20am train up the coast to Vancouver & the train station was 20-30 minutes away.  We called for a car service to arrive at 6am.  Our driver did not show up until 6:40.  Can you say panic???????
